Job opening - 3D Artist for Virtual Reality

MOØKAN is a 3D virtual experience company, developing projects for architectural and product visualization. In MOØKAN  we are looking for talented 3D artist for Virtual Reality projects. We offer positions for freelance and in-house artist.

Requirements

  • High-quality 3D modeling and texturing Hard-surface using Maya, 3dsmax, Photoshop. Rhino 3D and Zbrush are a plus.
  • Create clean object topology, UV’s and textures.
  • Full Texturing ability (Diffuse, Normal, Displacement etc).
  • Able to work effectively and accurately from pre-defined concept art and designs.
  • Speaks English, Chinese is a plus.

It is a plus if

  • Experience with Unreal Engine 4 (UE4).
  • Set up and optimize lighting for UE4.
  • Physically-based Rendering (PBR) experience for game engine modeling.
  • Previously work on game projects as a prop artist or an equivalent type role.

Apple and Virtual Reality - One year later

In the recent WWDC Apple announced great news regarding Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR). The first, is the launch of new computers prepared for these technologies, the second is that they have improve the 3D graphics with Metal 2, but the most interesting is what has not been announced, Apple does not launch its own VR platform, nor its own HMD (Virtual reality glasses).

Many articles can be read with the news announced by the firm of cupertino, so we will leave all those news that surely excite the followers of the mark aside to focus on what seems most relevant. Apple confirms its interest in the VR and AR industry, and does not launch a new platform that further shreds the market.

The absence of interest shown by Apple in VR has so far supported the idea of many skeptics who have taken these industries as passing fashions. Yesterday a year late than the PC, Apple announces VR-ready devices and enhancements on its software to deliver better graphics in this category. It is the definitive confirmation that these tools have come to change our world, leisure, social interaction and the way we will work.

But if that seemed clear from the rumors, what is surprising is the strategy taken, contrary to that they have developed in many other products where they have redefined the concept independently of others. This time the announcement has not included any platform of its own, nor its own HMD. They have limited themselves to support other already existing and consolidated platforms starting with SteamVR, which means access for VIVE and OpenVR on Mac.

Although this may disappoint some fans who may have expected an exclusive minimalist device of Apple's own, and this is great news. That an actor of this importance bet on one of the most consolidated platforms means much less fragmentation for the industry, therefore better access to content for users.

This puts Apple for the first time an item like this in the majority consortium, rather than playing solo. Role that in this scenario has taken Facebook with Oculus.

Still possible that the Apple will be preparing its own HMD, although they reserve to launch when the equipment this days announced announced are in the hands of early adopters. Probably if that, we will not see anything until 2018.

On our side at Moøkan, we are excited about what we have seen. Apple makes its show with HTC and Unreal Engine, which are also our commitment to the future, with which we develop our virtual reality applications.

苹果公司和虚拟现实 —— 一年之后

 

在最近的苹果全球开发者大会(WWDC )上,苹果公司发布了关于虚拟现实(VR)和增强现实(AR)的重大新闻。首先,苹果要推出具备这样的技术的新电脑;第二,苹果已使用Metal 2完善了三维图形;最后也是最有趣的事是,苹果并未提及其自己的VR平台或者头盔(虚拟现实眼镜)。

从Cupertino公司可以读到许多关于此发布会的文章,所以我们可以将这些消息留给苹果的追随者来关注。但苹果证实了它对虚拟现实(VR)和增强现实(AR)行业的兴趣,却没有推出一个新的平台来粉碎市场。

苹果公司过去在VR上的兴趣缺乏,支持了许多对VR持怀疑态度的人,他们认为这个行业已经过时了。昨天,在其PC机后的一年,苹果公司宣布了为VR预备的设备并增强其软件,以提供更好的图形。这最终确认了这些工具正在改变我们的世界、休闲、社交和工作方式。

但从谣言中可清楚看出,令人惊讶的是其所采取的策略,与其它产品开发相反,苹果定义了一个独立于其他产品的概念。本次公告并未包含任何自身的平台和头盔,但他们可在有限范围内支持已存在的其它平台,例如SteamVR,可从Mac上访问VIVEOpenVR

尽管这会让一些期待苹果独家装置的苹果粉失望,但这对于他们来说仍然是个好消息。一个像苹果这样巨头在一个最综合性的平台上下注,意味着这个行业的碎片会更少,因此更有利于用户。

这使得让苹果公司第一次在一个产品上面临主要的财团选择,而不是单独行事。以往Facebook即同Oculus这样合作过。

苹果开发自己的头盔仍然是有可能的,尽量他们保留了发布这方面的信息。可能由于这样的原因,我们可能到2018年才能看到相关消息。

Apple y la Realidad Virtual - Un año después

Estos días en el WWDC Apple ha anunciado grandes novedades con respecto a la Realidad Virtual (VR) y Realidad Aumentada (AR). El primero es que lanza nuevos equipos preparados para estas tecnologías, el segundo es que mejora el soporte para gráficos 3D con Metal 2, pero el más interesante es lo que no ha anunciado, Apple no lanza ninguna plataforma propia de RV, ni sus propio HMD (gafas de realidad virtual).

Se pueden leer muchos artículos con las novedades anunciadas por la firma de cupertino, por lo que dejaremos todas esas novedades que seguro entusiasman a los seguidores de la marca de lado para centrarnos en lo que nos parece más relevante. Apple confirma su interés en la industria de VR y AR, y no lanza una nueva plataforma que fragmente más el mercado.

La ausencia de interés mostrada por Apple en RV a apoyado hasta ahora la idea de muchos escépticos que han tomado estas industrias como modas pasajeras. Ayer con un año de retraso frente al PC Apple anuncia equipos preparados para VR y mejoras en su software para ofrecer mejores gráficos en esta categoría. Es la confirmación definitiva de que estas herramientas han llegado para cambiar nuestro mundo, el ocio, la interacción social y la forma en la que trabajaremos.

Pero si eso parecía claro por lo rumores, lo que sorprende es la estrategia tomada, contraria a la que han desarrollado en muchos otros productos donde han redefinido el concepto de forma independiente. En esta ocasión el anuncio no ha incluido ninguna plataforma propia, ni su propio HMD. Se han limitado a dar soporte para otras plataformas ya existentes y consolidadas empezando por SteamVR, que supone el acceso para VIVE y OpenVR en Mac.

Aunque esto pueda decepcionar a algunos fans que quizás esperasen un dispositivo minimalista y exclusivo propio de Apple, es una gran noticia. Que un actor de esta importancia apueste por una de las plataformas más consolidadas supone mucha menos fragmentación para la industria, por consiguiente mejor acceso a contenidos para los usuarios.

Esto pone por primera vez a Apple en un elemento como este en el consorcio mayoritario, en vez de jugar en solitario. Papel que en este escenario ha tomado Facebook con Oculus.

Queda decir que es posible que la marca de la manzana esté preparando su propio HMD aunque se reserve el lanzamiento a cuando los equipos que ahora ha anunciado estén en manos de los usuarios pioneros. Probablemente si eso es así no veremos nada hasta 2018.

Por nuestra parte en Moøkan, estamos entusiasmados con lo que hemos visto. Apple hace su demostración con HTC y Unreal Engine, que son también nuestras apuestas de futuro con las que desarrollamos nuestras aplicaciones de realidad virtual.
