J.F. Rogge - Ernst Thälmann Bust

Today we bring a bust of the German communist leader Ernst Thälmann, made by the German sculptor J.F. Rogge. The sculptor recognized by his busts and monuments first of the leaders of the German National Socialist and after World War II of the communist leaders. Thus many of his works are elaborated on photographs of the characters portrayed with whom he was not always contemporary.

In this case the sculpture of 1959 portrays Ernst Thälmann fifteen years after his execution and after spending eleven years imprisoned by the Nazi government, after being arrested in 1933.

Aladrén, male bust

Emilio Aladrén was a sculptor whose fame is divided between his work and his relationship with the poet Federico García Lorca, whose separation led the Granada poet to New York. His subsequent political alignment would lead to his greatest successes during the Franco dictatorship, portraying the regime's pro-men. In 1944 death overtook him prematurely ending his career with 38 years.

“Unamuno's Head” by Pablo Serrano

Today we bring a sculpture by Pablo Serrano, one of the most important Spanish artists of the 20th century, founder of El Paso (Group), avant-garde movement, which introduces abstract art in postwar Spain. Its international relevance can be seen in the museums that exhibit its work, such as the MoMA or the Guggenheim in New York, the Hirshhorn in Washington, the Pompidou Center in Paris, the Hermitage in St. Petersburg or the Vatican Galleries and in all relevant collections of modern art in Spain.

Benllurie - Bust of a Lady

This week we published a bust of the Spanish Mariano Benlliure, the last master of nineteenth-century realist sculpture in Spain. The bust portrays a lady of the Spanish high society of 1909, when it was portrayed in this marble of 19.5 x 23 cm base and 48 in height.

Mao Zedong - Ceramic

This time a pottery of the Chinese Communist leader Mao Zedong. The cult of the figure of this leader has bequeathed us innumerable representations of the same as a man of the people, so at the base we find the motto "at the service of the people" "为人民服务".

The cult of Mao promoted by Lin Biao was one of the bases of the cultural revolution and at that time it was usual to find its image in all kinds of buildings, shops and homes throughout China. Even today his image is common in the halls of many households in rural areas.

Sculptures like these were created all over the country and are easy to find in any antique business or even new copies in art and ceramic stores.

“Aprendiz” by Jerónimo Suñol

Today we present bust of an "apprentice" of the sculptor Jerónimo Suñol, one of the most important sculptors of his time in Spain. The sculpture is made in the stage of artistic refinement in Rome in 1878 and cast in bronze later in Barcelona. This small bust measures 43 cm high on the marble base and 22 x 21 cm in plan.

Adam by Rodin

Our second piece for this sculpture collection is a miniature of Rodin's Adam. This piece of smaller scale than the original, 56cm, seems to be a pre-test to the sculpture of Adam finally made in 1881 to place on the sides of "The Gates of Hell". Although it seems that before this assignment, Rodin already had exposed like "the creation of the man".

Photo-sculpture and Photogrammetry a 150 year leap

Photogrammetry is a modern technique of digital capture of real models, which we have already talked about in this blog. Technique we work on rebuilding sculptures or buildings. This technique analyzes a group of photos of a model from different points of view and with them and many triangulation operations we obtain an automatic model in 3D.

Virtual Hall: Download it and try The Experience!

At MooKan we are convinced that the future of communications goes beyond text, image or video; We believe that the virtual experiences with their multiple options of freedom and interaction are the solution that will complement the existing media taking them to a new level.

That is why today we have taken an important step. After publishing some articles and descriptions, images and videos of our works, today we launched the first free virtual experience, so you can prove for yourself what 3D Real Time brings over other media.

The Virtual hall sculpture collection

The sculpture collection we have used at the Virtual hall project comes from Sketchfab. All of them have been modified and optimized by our team to ensure a fluent simulation and the best quality. We would like to mention the original authors according to the Creative Commom license that they use to share their models and thanks their generosity.

The sculptures come in a big variety of qualities, usually between 50 000 and 200 000 polygons. our Team have optimized them to 15 000 polygons the small models and 30 000 the big or complex ones. To do it the process have three phases: Correction of original models, Reparametrizations and polycount reduction, Detail textures baking.

Moøkan at Sketchfab

We love Sketchfab, and we would like to share it with you. Sketchfab is a website to share 3D models as we share video in Youtube or Vimeo. It is a light 3D engine on the web that is perfect to show 3D models and sites. It is a fantastic tool for artists and it is becoming popular also for museums, to share their collections with all the world. Some models can be downloaded to share the 3D files, so other artists can use them for their own creations.
